THE BRONX BOOKWORM BOOK FESTIVAL August 16, 2025

The Bronx is Reading promotes literacy and fosters a love of reading among children, teens, and adul

The Bronx is Reading is thrilled to our second annual The Bronx Bookworm Book Festival on Saturday, August 16th, 12PM-4PM at Morrison Plaza! This is our second festival of its kind that’s geared toward picture book and illustrated storytellers. Come listen to both the author and the illustrator of the book for a dedicated storytime, illustration demonstration, brief discussion about the creation of the book, followed by an interactive activity. We’re inviting all parents, caregivers, and guardians to plan the reading seed early and cultivate Bronx readers and beyond this summer. This event is FREE. Click HERE for more information.

LINKS to LIT

Literacy OUTREACH

ROOM TO READ believes World Change Starts with Educated Children®, Room to Read is creating a world free from illiteracy and gender inequality. We are achieving this goal by helping children in historically low-income communities develop literacy skills and a habit of reading, and by supporting girls as they build skills to succeed in school and negotiate key life decisions.

The Children’s Book Project

gives books to children who need them for equity in literacy, learning, and life.

They aim to create a more socially just world by providing books for free to under-resourced children.  The Children’s Book Project is committed to closing the opportunity gap and lifting up our community by raising readers.

LITERACY

Contribution for literacy at checkout.

We don't just support global literacy alone. We work with libraries and readers across the globe to make a difference with every purchase.

Our annual literacy grants fund literacy and educational nonprofits and libraries for specific projects. Libraries and educational nonprofit literacy groups may apply for funds to support their efforts to further literacy in their communities. We carefully review each application ahead of awarding grants to fund projects that will have the greatest impact. Grants from Better World Books are made possible by your purchases!

We also partner with organizations to help them fundraise for programs that support literacy. Our customers have the option to contribute one dollar ($1.00) with each purchase on BetterWorldBooks.com for these initiatives. We have partnered with a variety of organizations, including Books for Africa, Internet Archive, and Little Free Library.

SUSTAINABILITY

We’re committed to creating a positive social and environmental impact.

Better World Books diverts books from landfills by collecting material from libraries, bookstores, college campuses throughout the community, and other sources with surplus materials.

Better World Books is deeply committed to sustainability, implementing initiatives such as energy-efficient lighting, transitioning to recyclable paper packaging, and extensive book reuse and recycling programs. These efforts have conserved significant resources, reduced waste, and minimized our carbon footprint, underscoring the dedication of Better World Books to promoting a circular economy and a greener future by simply selecting this option with their order at checkout.

The Children's Book Project of San Francisco is always in need of books to provide to underserved Bay Area children! You could make a difference by organizing a SUMMER BOOK DRIVE! People are happy to help children who need books by donating new books and like-new books  that their family have outgrown. The CBP is grateful for members of the community, like you, that are willing to lead a book drive that could potentially bring in anywhere from 50 to 5,000 children’s books. The CBP distributes over 10,000 free books every month to children who need them, so your drive is crucial to fulfilling their mission!
